Area Activities
Bowdoin College, home of The Walker Art Gallery and Perry / MacMillan Arctic Museum, is just over a mile from the Black Lantern B & B. Each summer the campus hosts Maine State Music Theatre, with four professional Equity musical theatre shows, and the internationally acclaimed Bowdoin Music Festival.
The Joshua Chamberlin Museum, Scoffield House Museum and Pejepscot Historical Society are within walking distance in downtown Brunswick, which also boasts several noted private art galleries, antique shops, and other attractions.
The nationally recognized Maine Maritime Museum with its extensive collection of exhibits and artifacts detailing the shipbuilding history in this region is just 10 minutes north in Bath.
Dining
The Topsham – Brunswick area has become a noted “foodie” area with a wide variety of excellent, small, locally owned restaurants serving light gourmet, traditional, and ethnic themed meals. Most are within walking distance. Judy and Tom keep current menus, and have personally eaten at each of the restaurants they recommend.
Biking and Hiking
The Black Lantern B & B is adjacent to a paved, off road bike / walking trail providing direct and easy access to the acclaimed Androscoggin River Trail in Brunswick. The 230 acre Cathance River Nature Preserve with numerous nature trails is less than a mile away and numerous other nature preserves and hiking trails are within a short drive of the Black Lantern B & B.
Kayaking
Bring your kayak and launch into the Androscoggin River from our dock or from the Brunswick Town Landing directly across the river. Kayak Rentals, with or without guided tours, are available from SeaSpray Kayaking on the New Meadows River just three miles away.
